overview

Gratitude. It's a concept we all know about but often don't take the time to give to ourselves or others. How can we in this busy and fast paced world? However, taking the time out of our days to practice gratitude can make a significant impact on one's mood, self esteem, and overall happiness.  Grattitude gives you the chance to take that time for yourself to give thanks and reflect in a short amount of time.

"There are so many things in the world that could be invisible to the material eye, and when you take a moment to stop, to pause, to be present and notice them—that’s gratitude."

-Jay Shetty

... and that's exactly what the  ðŸ¥…  for this app is!

problem

Busy people need a moment in their day when they can step back, reflect on what they’re grateful for and capture happy moments.

Delightful

Features:
-Three prompts
- daily reminder
- calendar

There was a variety of apps on the market that focused on the gratitude realm. After analyzing the features of some current app solutions, I deduced that my competitors do not offer any features to capture gratitude in other ways than writing and share gratitude with others

research

USER INTERVIEWS

I asked a variety of people ranging from the ages of 18-50 the following questions to get a better idea of peoples' perspectives on gratitude

1. How often do you consciously express gratitude in your daily life?
2. In what ways do you express gratitude towards others?
3. How does practicing gratitude affect your overall well-being and mental health?
4. Have you noticed any changes in your relationships as a result of expressing gratitude? If so, how?

research

USER STATS

86% OF PEOPLE
say they want to be able to reflect on their day but can't find the time

90% OF PEOPLE
say giving and receiving gratitude has positively impacted their relationships

"I've never really had the chance to reflect and express gratitude due to being busy; I would love to do it but there are other priorities"

"It feels good to express gratitude even if it's just thanking someone. I wish I was able to do that at least once every day."

"It's a simple act but a big one. I just need to be prompted to do it!"

goals

Through this project I want to:

Give users the opportunity to pause + take a moment out of their day to express gratitude to themselves and others

1

Give users the opportunity to reflect on their day in a manner that doesn't consume too much of their time

2

Save each days' gratitudes to be able to look back on

3

so how do we do this?

ideating

MAIN FEATURES

affirmation mirror

I decided on the affirmation mirror being the homepage as I wanted the user to be able to literally "self reflect" on themselves as their main source of gratitude

- users input an adjective they want to self affirm
- the "I am" statement will stay there and reappear whenever user opens the app

UX Notes_Design-13.heic

gratitude tracker

Journal-2.png

the gratitude tracker keeps tracks of the gratitudes people write down throughout their day.

- can add up to as many gratitudes as they want!
- accessed through journal feature
- kept and tracked for each day

UX Notes_Design-14.heic

quick capture

the quick capture lets the user capture moments of their day in video or picture form.

- can add up to as many captures as they want!
- kept and stored for each day
- accessed through the journal feature

UX Notes_Design-14.heic

journal

the journal houses all the information that is inputted by the user(quick capture, gratitude tracker)

- pick any date from the displayed calendar
- view that days' gratitudes and videos/pictures
- go back to any date that you want any time

UX Notes_Design-15.heic

storyboarding

To better understand how exactly the users would be utilizing these features, I created storyboards to consider the different steps a user might go through when interacting with the product

hold on... 🤔

after ideating, I asked for some initial feedback and came to the realization that I was missing one crucial function: directly giving and receiving gratitude from others

so...

give thanks

the give thanks feature let's the user express their gratitude to others while also receiving

- write up a quick message of gratitude and send it on your way!
- View gratitude you have received from others

and finally...

final design

give yourself

Try out the prototype!

reflection

so what did I learn?

1. details, details

when designing initially, I failed to take into account one of the main laws of UX: user control and freedom. Users should be able to quickly correct mistakes or backtrack on choices made. Though it could mean the slightest change in design, it is something that users look for while exploring the interface

2. iterations are key!

I've always done iterations in my designs but after this project, I've realized just how many times you can iterate which will ultimately make the end process better.
